Procedures

Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a method of imaging using sound waves that is commonly done for thyroid evaluation. It is painless and does not use radiation. The ultrasound is the most accurate way to show the thyroid shape, size, position, as well as any abnormalities, including nodules or cysts.

DEXA Scan
A DEXA scan measures bone mineral density; this is used to diagnose and monitor osteopenia and osteoporosis.

Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)
Fine Needle aspiration (FNA) is a type of biopsy procedure. A thin needle collects tissue samples to help make diagnoses such as thyroid cancer.

Radioactive Iodine (I131) Therapy
If you have an overactive thyroid gland or have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, your endocrinologist may prescribe radioactive iodine as part of your treatment. Radioactive iodine, given in a capsule, is absorbed and concentrated by the thyroid gland. The treatment destroys thyroid tissue but does not harm other tissue in the body. After treatment, the radioactive iodine will pass out of your body in your saliva and urine usually in a few days.

Find a Lab

If your physician orders blood work, you may go to any lab that is accepted by your insurance. Please try to complete your pre-clinic labs a week prior to your visit so that your test results will be available at the time of your visit to make it more  productive.
If you use another lab such as your primary care doctor's lab or a hospital lab, it is important to bring your results with you on your visit since we will not have access to those results.

Prescription Refills

We will refill medications prescribed by our providers.  Please determine what medications need to be refilled during your visit. You will be given enough refills to last until your next appointment. This allows us to monitor the treatment you are receiving.

If you need refills between your visit, please contact your pharmacy and they will send request to our office. Please allow 48-72 hours for this process to be completed.

If your medication requires prior authorization, approval from insurance may take a week or more. Please allow for additional time for your request to be processed. If your refill request is denied, we will not be able to fill your medication until an appointment is made.

If you have not been seen within one year, you will need to be seen in our clinic first to get a refill.
